Define Stationary Waves

When two progressive waves of same amplitude and wavelength travelling along a straight line in opposite directions superimpose on each other, stationary waves are formed.

The standing wave model can be a vibration pattern created inside a medium when this vibration frequency of the source causes reflected waves from one end of this medium to restrict incident waves in the source.
