What is Metamerism?

Metamerism: This type of isomerism is due to the unequal distribution of carbon atom on either side of the functional group. The individual members are known as metamers. This type of isomerism is due to the unequal distribution of carbon atoms on either side of a functional group. Metamers belong to the same homologous series, for example diethyl ether and methyl propyl ether. Normally the compounds having divalent functional group show metamerism like ether, ketone etc.

Example: Pentanone-2 & pentanone- 3 are metamers of each other.
