On the basis of the use of report either by any internal or external party; it can be of the following two types:

Internal report: Internal reports are those that are prepared for use within the organization: Internal reports are usually written in memo format and these are less formal. It is a vital component of a well-run business, but in most organizations, it’s fraught with challenges including versioning overlap and manual processes. These roadblocks often result in inaccuracy, inefficiency and a lot of frustration.

External report: When a report is prepared for the outsiders or external stakeholders, it is called external report. This type of report is more formal than internal report.  A company produced report containing information suitable for public consumption. This types of reports can also be used as a way for a company to disseminate information that will help it achieve a strategic objective.
