Internal communication is the way of exchanging information with the various internal parties of an organization. It bridges the gap among the different people at different levels in the organizational hierarchy. An effective internal communication system requires following features / factors:

Clarify: Success of internal communication depends on the clarity of objectives to be attained, messages to be sent and channels to be used. Communicators must have clear idea on these matters so that they can transmit meaningful message to the right persons through the right channels.

Simplicity: The message of internal communication should be simple so that all members of the organization can understand inner meaning of the message. This requires using simple and familiar words, using easy language and avoiding ambiguous and technical words.

Following established rules and chain of command: internal formal communication usually follows the officially recognized rules, regulations and chain of command. This communication occurs in downward, upward, and horizontal direction to convey necessary information to the people concerned.

Use of informal channel: To overcome the shortcomings of formal channel of communication, internal communication also uses informal channels. This creates good relationship among the organizational people and helps to attain organizational goals.

Free and fair flow of information: An effective internal communication system ensures free and fair flow of information among the persons through formal and informal channels.

Economical: Internal communication is less costly than other forms of communication. When internal communication occurs in a formal way, it follows officially sanctioned rules and regulations Therefore, it incurs minimum costs. Besides this, informal internal communication incurs no cost at all.

Pervasiveness: Internal communication occurs in different forms within the organizational boundary. It relates everyone in the organization and its flow of information reaches to every corner of the organization.
