Plasmolysis may be defined as the shrinkage of cell protoplasm away from ifs cellulose wall when placed in hypertonic solution.
Plasmolysis shrinking of the cytoplasm away from the wall of a living cell due to the outward osmotic flow of water. The cell wall prevents the plants from losing their shape and holds them upright. Beneath the cell wall is the plasma membrane, which holds the goop inside the cell in. The goop inside the cell is called the cytoplasm.
