Definition:

If the motion of a particle (or an object) is such that, it passes through a certain point from the same direction after a certain definite interval of time, then the motion is known as periodic motion.

example:

  • The motion of electrons around the nucleus,
  • the motion of the earth around the sun,
  • the motion of a simple pendulum about its mean position of rest
