Applications of Raman Spectrum

Raman spectroscopy or Raman Spectrum is used in many varied fields, like, non-destructive, microscopic, chemical analysis and imaging is required.

(i) It is widely used in almost all branches of science.

(ii) Raman Spectra of different substances enable to classify them according to their molecular structure.

(iii) In industry, Raman Spectroscopy is being applied to study the properties of materials.

(iv) It is used to analyse the chemical constitution.

The standard spectral range reaches well below 400 cm-1, making the technique ideal for both organic and inorganic species

Raman spectroscopy can be used to measure bands of symmetric linkages which are weak in an infrared spectrum (e.g. -S-S-, -C-S-, -C=C-)

Other common applications are:

  • Powder content and purity
  • Raw material verification
  • Polymorphic forms
  • Crystallinity
  • Contaminant identification
  • Combinatorial chemistry
