A Visit to An Export Fair

A trade fair is a fair for the display of industrial products to both the domestic and the foreign buyers. An International Trade Fair is a large-scale exhibition of the products of arts, crafts, agriculture, and industry. It is one kind of publicity of drawing the attention of the national and international industrialists and producers.  It helps a country attract foreign buyers and to earn foreign exchange. The host country invites friendly countries to install stalls in the trade fair to display their exportable goods to the people of the host country. It strengthens the economic tie between the host country and other participating countries. Last year I had an opportunity to visit an International Trade fair.

Last year I got an opportunity to visit the international trade fair which was held in January at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The fair was organized jointly by the Export Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Commerce at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. It was held in a vast area and I found about seven hundred decorated stalls of different countries. We entered the fair at 5 pm.

In the fair, many countries such as India, China, Japan, East Germany, Malaysia, and Korea participated. They displayed models of their exportable products and tried to attract interested importers from different countries including Bangladesh. Beautiful and spacious stalls of different shapes and sizes were erected to display the products which were kept there in an attractive arrangement. We visited different stalls. The stalls for ready-made garments attracted us so much. Our visit to the stalls of ceramic industries, plastic industries, melamine industries was also interesting. We bought some products.

Works for arts, crafts, handicrafts, agriculture, industry, etc. are placed in a trade fair.  Many exportable food items by various companies in our country were displayed. Among the food items, jam, jelly and different kinds of pickles attracted the notice of the buyers. Among the agricultural and manufactured products, carpets, mats, bags, Rajshahi Silk, Dhakai muslin, leather goods, tea, processed foods, etc attracted foreign buyers very much. A trade fair plays a very important role in the field of making our homemade exportable goods to know to other countries.

We also visited the stalls of various countries like India, Malaysia, Korea, China, Germany, Japan, etc. and were charmed to see the quality of their products. I bought a camera from a Japanese stall at a very reasonable price. I was highly impressed at the beautiful sight of the fair. Moving from the pavilion to pavilion in the trade fair, I saw that people were busy buying, selling, and observing.

A country can be able to know about other countries through trade fair. It encourages foreign countries to import goods from our country. We got to experience and were able to compare our products with the products of other countries in Asia like China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Korea. We realized that the products of our country are not inferior to the products of those countries in regard to price and quality. If we try to improve the quality of our products, we will surely be able to improve our products and compete with the products of many other countries. It encourages foreign countries to import goods from our country. Therefore, it is necessary to hold a trade fair every year in our country.

The economic value of a trade fair is very great. If such a fair is arranged every year, our industrialists and manufacturers will be encouraged to improve the quality of their products. It is a means to expand international trade and to enhance its economy. Such an arrangement will be helpful for earning more foreign currencies and thereby developing our economy as a whole. It also helps in giving the international market of our products.
