Ozone: Tri-atomic oxygen that exists in the earth’s atmosphere as a gas. It is highest in concentration in the stratosphere (10-50 km above the earth’s surface) where it absorbs the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. Stratospheric ozone is produced naturally and helps to protect life from the harmful effects of solar ultraviolet radiation. Ozone is very exceptional in our environment, averaging about three molecules of ozone for every 10 million air molecules. Despite this small amount, it performs an essential function within the ecosystem.

It is a gas in the atmosphere that protects the whole thing dwelling on earth from dangerous ultraviolet (UV) rays from the solar.
