Tree Plantation in Bangladesh

Trees are our best friends. They are an essential part of our environment. Trees give us food and shelter. Forests play a vital role in our economic development. Trees cause rainfall and thus prevent the spread of deserts. Trees save our land from erosion and maintain the fertility of the soil. Forests exert much influence upon the climatic condition of a country. So our forests and trees are deeply interlinked with the overall development of our country. They save the topsoil from erosion. They also make our land fertile. They are, in fact, part and parcel of our life. They give shelter to many animals, insects, and birds.

Bangladesh is a lower riparian country. We can plant trees on the banks of ponds, on the banks of dams and on both sides of highways, etc. Lands in the upper valley of a river are more suitable for the growth and development of forests. Again in the villages, there are many places that can be used for tree plantation. As a result, we are not blessed with rich forest resources. Still, we have got some notable forest areas like Bhawal, Madhupur, Chittagong Hill Tracts, and the famous Sundarbans. These forest areas are abundant with Sundari, Garan, Ghewa, Kaora, etc.

Trees give us various kinds of delicious and sweet fruits and these fruits also, to some extent, satisfy our requirement for food. Fruits also provide us with vitamins. Fruit trees like mango, jack-fruit, coconut, blackberry, guava etc supply us with delicious and juicy fruits. Trees are the factories of oxygen. Trees supply oxygen for our survival. Green plants play the most important role in keeping the atmospheric balance by consuming carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. So, the removal of plants and trees would disturb the composition of natural air. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen which helps human beings and other animals to survive in this world. Trees make our world beautiful. It is very charming to look at trees. But the world is losing its trees in a huge amount every year.

Finally, we can say that trees are our national assets. Many countries are already turning into deserts due to the massive cutting of trees. Many species of birds and animals have also become extinct for want of food and habitat after the destruction of forests. Trees are essential to maintain ecological balance for the preservation of fauna. It should be better to plant trees more and more for a better, happier, and healthier life.

The months of June and July are the proper time for planting trees. “Tree-plantation week” should be observed more effectively so that awareness about trees and about the utility of tree plantation can be raised. We can plant trees in any open places. around our houses, office buildings, factories, schools colleges, and hospitals. Illiterate people of the villages do not know the utility and importance of trees and forests. Motivation, in this case, maybe a fruitful attempt. A court should have, at least, 25% forest area of the total land. But we have only 9% forest area of total land. If we can not increase our forest area, we shall not be able to maintain our ecological balance. The amount of carbon dioxide will increase. Trees are significant to human life. So, we should plant more and more trees to maintain a balance between man and nature.
