Explain Distinction between Free Radical Reaction and Polar Reaction

Distinction between Free Radical Reaction and Polar Reaction

Free Radical Reaction

  • Occurs by free radical which is formed in homolytic fission.
  • Catalyzed by the light, peroxide and high temperature.
  • Reaction occurs in gaseous state or in non-polar solvent.
  • Generally chain reaction.
  • Affected by the free radical.

Ionic or Polar Reaction

  • Occurs by ion which is formed in heterolytic fission.
  • Catalyzed by the acid or alkali.
  • Reaction occurs in the solution of polar solvent.
  • Not chain reaction.
  • Free radical has effect on ionic reaction.
