How Chlorine can be identified in Organic Compound?

Chlorine can be identified in Organic Compound: In the solution of chloride salt silver nitrate is added and white precipitate of AgC1 is formed. Produced precipitate is insoluble in HNO3 but soluble in light NH4OH.

NaCl(aq) + AgNO3 = AgC1 + NaNO3 (White precipitate)

AgCI(aq) + 2NH4OH (aq) = [Ag (NH3)2] Cl(aq) + 2H2O(l)
