Social Power and Responsibility

Social power is a basis of common elements in politics, economics, and all other social relationship. It is the ability to achieve goals even if other people oppose those goals.

Responsibility means the obligation to carry out duties and achieve goals related to apposition. The social responsibility is depending on the social power so that power and responsibility has some criteria that are given below:-

(a) Decision making and social responsibility: Decision making is the power this must be applied in the proper decision making and must be maintaining social responsibility.

(b) Sub-optimization and social responsibility: When a group’s values are predominantly partisan without a socially responsible concern for the public interest than from the view of the larger social system. The partisan group is sub-optimizing general social benefits.

(c) Both intended and actual outcomes are important: A socially responsible intention does not guarantee results in the public interest. An intended outcome of serving public welfare always must be present for a decision to be considered socially responsible and normally the actual outcome needs to serve the public interest.

(d) Degrees of social responsibility: There are degrees of social responsibility depending on their intended outcome in comparison with other decision alternatives. A decision is maximally socially responsible. When decision maker chooses the decision in any numbers of the benefit of society

(e) Moving toward more responsible behavior: A firm could choose not to follow the law and instead take the consequences as many businesses have done in the past. Compliance with social law such as a fair employment law is a conscious act.

(f) Social responsibility applies to all organizations and life rules: Although this book emphasizes business social responsibility, business is not alone in having a social responsibility. All organization’s public and private have social responsibilities to protect and enhance the public quality of life.

(g) Public interest cannot be determined exactly: Although the public interest is a useful guide for responsible decision making. There is no exact way to determine. What the “public interest” is how to measure it or how to ceruse it.

(h) Social responsibility and social response: It is the underlying value which gives businessmen a sound basis for social action.
