External communication serves the organization in various ways. It can take place by using various means and methods. The followings are the prominent methods of exchanging information with the outsiders.

Oral Methods of External Communication: Communication with the external parties is primarily done through various oral media. The main oral external media are as follows:

  • Face to face conversation: One of the most important methods of external communication is face-to-face conversation. Generally, business dealings and negotiations are initiated and settled by face-to-face conversation. Basing on such conversation, the parties can finally reach to an agreement. It is a quick method of making business negotiation. However, it involves huge costs, as it requires physical presence.
  • Telephonic conversation: In this modern age, both fixed line and mobile phones are used as the media of external communication. Through telephone, parties can exchange information even though they are far away from each other. It is also a costly medium of external communication.

Advantages: There are a lot of circumstances in which it makes logic to decide oral over written communication. Oral communication is further personal and less official than written communication. If time is inadequate and a business substance requires fast decision, it may be best to have a face-to-face or telephone conversation.
