Meaning of Short Report

Short reports are most commonly used instruments in business. It is a report in which some parts of long report are dropped out. That is, it is short in terms of contents and thus in length. As the degree of formality decreases and the problem becomes simpler, the make-up of the report also changes. In such case, short reports are written instead of long reports. One advantage of a short-form report is that it saves money because it takes the auditor less time to prepare.

Short reports are essentially meant to inform the reader and provide the essential information about a particular topic. These types of report may be organized in either direct or indirect order; however, direct order is most commonly used. In direct order, the report begins with a summary of the report. Following the summary, the introductory remarks are presented. The introduction contains a single paragraph covering the facts of authorization and a brief statement of the report problem and its scope Findings of the report come after the introductory part. Finally, conclusions and recommendations are presented where needed. The use of appendix and bibliography depends on the readers’ need and requirement.
