Explain Ribosome with Structure and Function

The cell organelles that are responsible for protein synthesis are known as Ribosomes.

Discovery: In 1955, Pavel first discovered Ribosome.

Shape: Almost round or oval shaped.

Number: It varies from cell to cell.

Position: They may remain attached to the endoplasmic reticulum, are around the outer surface of the nuclear membrane and also the) may be found freely in the cytoplasm

Structure: Each ribosome consists of about 40%. RNA and 60% protein It is surrounded by a two-layered membrane.

Functions:

(i) It synthesizes protein.

(ii) It helps in sending the synthesized substances to Golgi bodies.
